Prof. Andre van As is an internationally recognised underground mine geotechnical engineer with over 30 years' experience specialising in cave mining geomechanics, cave management, and enabling technologies. He has held senior global leadership roles at Rio Tinto, pioneered the application of hydraulic fracturing for cave induction, and is currently Professor and Group Lead for Deep Mining Geoscience at the University of Queensland, while continuing to advise major cave mining operations worldwide.
